Louisville Ski Club
Skiing and a whole lot more since 1956!

The LSC originated in 1956 with a few avid snow skiers whose prime interest was to promote the sport. We offer a variety of winter and snow-ski activities, such as NASTAR-type downhill racing, ski weekends, and Western and European ski trips.

Today, we offer a wide range of other year-round social activities, such as Friday Night Happy Hours, boating, camping, scuba diving, whitewater rafting, wine tasting, hiking, house boating, event parties, and organized co-ed leagues for volleyball, softball and bowling. We are a member of the Ohio Valley Ski Council, and support Special Olympics KY.

"I've been in the Louisville Ski Club about 10 years. I was looking for a fun group of people to be active with and the Ski Club fits that bill. Hiking, biking, volleyball, softball, bowling, golf, skiing, kayaking...I enjoy them all. The wonderful  part is that these people become true friends that you gather with outside of the club as well! The Friday happy hours around town gives members the opportunity to relax and socialize with friends while checking out new places.  I met Marty in the club after a softball game and so it began.

Outside of the club I basically enjoy the same activities as I do in with the added pleasures of time with my three daughters, their fellas and my three amazing grandkids. Marty and I love to travel and in addition to four LSC skiing trips we have also made 9 trips out west to camp, snowshoe, ski, hike, fish, kayak and explore the National Parks (Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Arches, Yellowstone, Rocky Mountains, Glacier, Theodore Roosevelt, Badlands, Mt. Rushmore, a trip to Niagara Falls, trips to Florida, a trip to Russia and last summer a trip of a lifetime with the Ohio Valley Ski Club to South Africa. Last February we got to learn about, photograph, learn about and track the wolf packs of Yellowstone. Marty and I share a love of the outdoors, animals and photography and so traveling just comes naturally into play.

I always appreciated when others ran activities in the Ski Club but when I took the plunge with volleyball and Betty at my side I discovered how much volunteers play a part in keeping the club alive and fresh. It takes a lot of people to keep the club running smoothly and I encourage everyone to try running or co-running an activity. Take over an activity you enjoy of start something new. Encourage friends and new people to join. The Ski Club is what we make it. I appreciate the nomination for member of the month but there are so many people that do so much more to make the club what it is!

I was a Special Education teacher back in the day and it was then that I developed a lifelong love of working with children,  volunteering/community service, and crafts. I always loved exploring, new adventures and the outdoors. Marty and I stay very busy between our travels our friends our hobbies our volunteer opportunities and being Grams and Grumps. We are looking forward to him retiring or going part time (possibly next spring) and our big move out west. We will truly miss the club and our friends here when the time comes though."- Cathy Welsh

Happy Fall Y’all!!

It’s already snowing out west and its only October!! If you haven’t booked your ski trip yet for this upcoming season, you are not too late.  We still have openings on the Winter Park and Sun Peaks trips. And don’t forget that Ski Club Members have access to any of the OVSC trips as well.  Check out their website for their trip info at

If you are looking for some fun Fall Club activities be sure not to miss the Annual Hike, Bike and Spike event at Forrest Edge Winery and Bernheim Forrest.  It’s always a great time to get outdoors and celebrate the fall weather.  Be sure to register by Oct. 7th.

Also, LSC will be participating in the Clifton Chili Cookoff on Oct. 9th. This is a great marketing event for us as it replaces the Phoenix Hill cook off from years past.  Come help us set up, cook, pass out samples, and talk up the club to hundreds of potential members.  Wear your LSC shirts and help us spread the word!!

Help us Celebrate the Holidays and the 60th Anniversary in style!!  The Formal Christmas Dance on Dec 3rd, is open for registrations now!  Cost is $40 but you get a full catered holiday dinner, 2 drinks, and fantastic live entertainment by Replay. If you want to book a room at the Ramada Plaza Hotel (Hurstbourne), be sure to mention Ski Club to get the discounted room rate.

Next May Louisville will be hosting the OVSC Summit Event.  This is a huge opportunity for our club to showcase our city, put our best foot forward and really show them what LSC is all about.  Club members from cities all around the Ohio Valley, and representatives from top ski resorts will be attending. There will be a variety of activities around this weekend long event and we will need all the volunteers we can get.  Please let any board member know if you you’d like to help out!!

And as always, if you have an idea for an activity or event for our club, please feel free to attend a Board Meeting that meets the last Tuesday of every month or a General Club Meeting on the second Friday each month at the Aero Club. We are always looking for new ideas and volunteers to make things happen!

Yours Truly,

Denise Frye
